Feeling broken from time to time is something all people experience. During that period, we feel hopeless and it seems impossible to move on. These situations teach us how to become stronger and more capable of handling difficult times, so make sure you use them wisely to be able to grow as a person.
These are the 8 things you need to remember when you feel broken:
1.Cracks allow light to come in
If we did not feel broken occasionally, we would not appreciate good things in life as much as we should. Those heart-breaking experiences teach us how to find the good in every situation. If we only had positive experiences, we would never learn how to overcome the obstacles in life.
Life is never easy. It will break you open, tear you apart and finally build you to become an even better person. When we feel broken a lot of parts of us open up and this is why you need to remember this whenever you feel down.
2.Accept and honor your feelings, don’t fight them
Having negative emotions is not something you should feel bad about because we are all human. Some situations make us react by screaming, crying or falling to our knees. You should never be embarrassed or afraid to show your emotions no matter how strong they are. Keeping everything inside will eventually cause you to burst. Don’t suppress your feelings just because you are trying to delay your breakdown, because you will feel like you are carrying the entire world on your shoulders.
3.Keep remembering your “why”
During the challenging experiences, we usually forget about our causes and goals. When you are broken it is very easy to lose focus on your mission, however overcoming these obstacles will make your purpose even deeper. Going through bad experiences teaches you how to relate to other people. Always keep your “why” on your mind and think of your negative experiences as a way of creating a better perspective on life.
4.Remember everything that exists beyond your brokenness
When we feel broken it does not mean the entire world has the same perspective as us. Your bad day is not the reason for the planet to fall apart, so make sure you expand your perspective and think about the usual everyday things you should cherish. Go for a walk and enjoy the fresh air and the pleasant sunshine. Remembering the good things around you will help you stop thinking about the world as a dark place.
5.Remember your friends and family members that support you
The best way to overcome a difficult situation is with the help of people we care about. Never be afraid of asking for somebody’s help. If you think you will bother them, remember the times you were there for them.
6.Focus on the things that make you happy
When we are overwhelmed with negative emotions, we only focus on the bad things and we forget about those that make us happy. Try to do something that will keep your mind off of the current situation such as catching up with an old friend, watching your favorite movie or reading a book.
7.Don’t identify with your feelings
Your current emotions don’t define who you are as a person. They will come and go even if you don’t want them to and keep in mind there is not much you can do to control them. You can learn how to cope with them and avoid letting your emotions become too involved in your life.
8.Life is a series of ups and downs. This is only temporary
Emotions, whether good or bad, are always temporary. When you have negative emotions try to remind yourself that they will go away and you will soon feel happiness again. And when the good times arrive, try to use them the best way you can and cherish them. Once you grow old, you will look back at life and I am sure you don’t want to see only negative things behind you.
