Most people hate waking up in the morning. Getting out of a comfy bed after a relaxing dream is difficult. There are some people who are considered morning persons but they are definitely rare. Most of us have low energy and it is hard to start their day on the right foot in the morning. But, there are certain things you can do to make your morning a lot more enjoyable that can bring more happiness and peace as soon as you wake up.
1. Let that sunshine in
Majority of us would rather keep the shades and curtains closed in order to avoid getting our sleep disrupted by the sun. But, actually letting the sunshine in can help your body wake up gradually and faster. You will reduce the feeling of sleepiness before you even wake up. If you hate having the sunshine in your eyes, you can always use an eye mask.
2. Listen to some songs
We are sure there is at least one song that boosts your mood whenever you are down or tired. Just play it in the morning and it can easily increase your energy levels. Music stimulates the production of endorphins, feel-good chemicals that make us more energetic. However, try not to play the song too often to avoid getting tired of it. You can also create a playlist that can make your body move even early in the morning.
When you are sleeping your body sometimes moves into positions that are not that comfortable which can lead to pain when we wake up. However, you can reduce this pain by stretching or having a few quick movements. This can improve your blood circulation and also wake up your nervous system making you feel more energetic. Stretching also relieves stress and anxiety and has beneficial effect on our overall health.
4. Drink fluids first thing in the morning, especially water
If you sleep for about 6 or 8 hours at night, it means your body does not get any fluids at all for quite a long time. However, this can cause unpleasant feelings when you wake up because your body gets partially dehydrated. If you don’t make up for the loss of fluids as soon as you wake up, your body will suffer as a result. Your brain will also become less responsive or more lethargic. Drink at least 2 big full cups of water immediately after waking up. You can easily forget this because our brains are foggy in the morning, but try to make it a habit by setting a reminder such as an alarm, or sticking a post-it note on your fridge.
5. Be present
Being present in your thoughts is important but it is especially challenging in the morning. Most people start their days by thinking about all the responsibilities they have to complete, however it is not helpful for your brain. Take it easy and do one task at a time. Your thoughts are very likely to wander, but go step by step. Enjoy your cup of coffee, then focus on making your breakfast or read the news, stretch, get in the shower. Make conscious decisions to stop your thoughts from wandering and your mornings will be a lot more productive and manageable.
6. Hit the gym
Getting some exercise is always beneficial, but it is a lot better to include it in your morning routine if possible. Just 30-45 minutes of exercise will make your heart pumping and your energy will be increased. It will also put you in a great set of mind to start your day the right way.
The exercise routine does not have to be rigorous, but at least try to make it beneficial by giving it a proper structure. If you want to get energy, 15-30 minutes of jogging, weight-lifting or biking can be very helpful. You also don’t have to do these exercises, you can just do any that is enjoyable and convenient to you. As long as it helps your body move better, you can immediately feel the beneficial properties of exercising in the morning.
